SUMMARY:Neuromorphic Computing Meets Quantum Mechanics
DESCRIPTION:Human brains possess computational capacity far superior to any digital computer. This functionality is endowed by synapse\, a small 30 nm junction that allows two nerve cells to communicate. This communication (synaptic action) occurs via changes in charge concentrations that modify the transmission of an electrical signal across the synapse. Replicating this synaptic architecture and communication artificially would be a critical step toward building computers that emulate brain-like performance minimizing energetic costs\, or neuromorphic computing. Various materials and physical phenomena based on classical physics have been explored to utilize intrinsic materials physics to enable energy-efficient computation by replicating the functionalities of biological neurons and synapses. Merging insights from brain-inspired hardware and software with quantum phenomena and quantum technologies\, could unlock a new era of information processing. Quantum technologies based on unitary dynamics are inherently dissipationless and have the potential to further reduce energy costs\, in addition to the reductions offered by neuromorphic computing. \nThe conference “Neuromorphic Computing Meets Quantum Mechanics” is poised to facilitate the convergence of researchers from three cutting-edge domains: neuromorphic computing\, quantum technologies\, and artificial intelligence. This unique platform aims to inspire collaborative interaction among experts in neuromorphic computing\, encompassing both hardware and software\, specialists in quantum materials and quantum optics theory and experiments\, and experts in deep learning and artificial general intelligence (AGI). By bringing these fields together\, the conference seeks to facilitate discussion and collaboration towards the development of quantum-enhanced neuromorphic hardware capable of surpassing classical von Neumann architectures for AGI-oriented computing. This visionary conference will host talks and brainstorming sessions centered on the transformative potential of utilizing quantum phenomena and materials to reshape the landscape of neuromorphic computing for AGI. The conference aims to inspire discussions on novel approaches\, paving the way for new technologies at linking AGI and quantum computing. Join us in charting a path towards a future where quantum mechanics converges with neuromorphic computing\, redefining the possibilities of AGI. \n

SUMMARY:AAAI 2024
DESCRIPTION:38th Annual AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence\nThe purpose of the AAAI conference series is to promote research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and foster scientific exchange between researchers\, practitioners\, scientists\, students\, and engineers across the entirety of AI and its affiliated disciplines. AAAI-24 will feature technical paper presentations\, special tracks\, invited speakers\, workshops\, tutorials\, poster sessions\, senior member presentations\, competitions\, and exhibit programs\, and a range of other activities to be announced. \nWe expect for AAAI-24 to be an in-person conference – one author of all accepted papers will be expected to present work in person unless there are exceptional circumstances that prevent this. \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDriven by its disciplinary diversity\, AAAI has incubated numerous AI sub-disciplines and conferences and has nurtured for decades the cohesion of AI. New communities often emerge when two or more disciplines come together in order to explore new opportunities and perspectives; today\, both are plentiful. The purpose of this year’s Bridge Program is to tap into new sources of innovation by cultivating collaboration between two or more communities directed towards a common goal. Our interpretation of bridges is broad and encompasses disciplines within and outside of AI. Hence\, the communities that our Bridge Program is intended to bring together could be distinct subfields of AI\, such as planning and learning\, or different disciplines that contribute to and benefit from AI\, such as AI and the humanities.

SUMMARY:International Conference on Neuromorphic\, Natural and Physical Computing
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to announce the “Neuromorphic\, Natural and Physical Computing: Interdisciplinary Foundations (NNPC 2023)”\, organized with generous support by the Volkswagen Foundation. The conference will take place the 25th – 27th of October 2023 in Hanover\, Germany\, and the deadline for submitting a 2-page abstract is March 15th. \nThe general aim of NNPC 2023 is to boost interdisciplinary transfer of ideas and networking in the wider fields of non-digital computing. NNPC 2023 is a successor to the 2018 conference “Cognitive Computing: Merging Concepts with Hardware” (https://nnpc-conference.com/2018) whose very productive and motivating format will be kept\, as well as the location and the generous funding conditions. \nEach session is devoted to a specific theme. We encourage active engagement of attendants by requiring submission of a 2-page abstract on a subject relating to one of the session themes. These abstracts are peer-reviewed. From the accepted abstracts three are chosen for oral presentations and the remaining ones for posters. Importantly\, novelty is not essential as our aim is to make knowledge to diffuse across boundaries of the scientific domains involved.
