Prof Thomas Nowotny of the Sussex AI Centre of Excellence at the University of Sussex gave an introductory lecture on “Decarbonising AI with Event-Based Neural Networks” for students at ATLAS Skilltech University, Mumbai. After a general introduction of the fundamental workings of generative AI and some of its issues, he focused on how to build more energy-efficient AI using spiking neural network paradigms and neuromorphic hardware. The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session in which ATLAS students asked many pertinent and stimulating questions.
